Lillie died on January 19, 1918 at age 26 in San Diego, California. She lived at 2786 Newton Avenue at that time.  Internment was at the Masonic cemetery at Mt. Hope. Robert Miller, Jr. said his mother, May, said it was because she fell off a motorcycle and the large bruise on her leg turned to "cancer."  Hester Miller said they always blamed her husband for her death because "he was the motorcycle fiend, but that Lillie was the type who loved it too. It was very tragic as they did amputations on her leg twice and then it was too late to save her." They had no children.

After her death Julian enlisted in the Navy on May 31, 1918. He married Dorothy Gladys Powell (1907-1984) He died on August 1, 1976 in Santa Barbara.
