Ella Eliza Treahy Miller Long

Ella Eliza (Nellie) Treahy Miller Long was born August 22, 1884 at Cocktail Springs near Del Mar, California. Her parents were John Patrick Treahy and Matilda Jones Treahy. She may have been named after her mother's stepfather, Ellar McKellar and her mother's mother, Eliza McKellar. In 1890 and 1891, Nellie attended the San Dieguito School near the McKellar ranch and Eliza McKellar is listed as her guardian. She met her future husband John D. Miller at that school. 

She married, horseshoer, John Delbert Miller (Dot) on June 30, 1908 when she was 24. He is described in greater detail in the section on the John and Victoria Miller family. They had one daughter, Jessie Estelle Miller Finkenkeller, who was born on July 18, 1909.

In 1916, according to the San Diego Directory, she worked as a waiter for the Hatpin Restaurant and as manager of Hotel Lynne. She lived at 1010 8th Street, In 1918 she worked as a stenographer. She became a widow in 1919 when her husband died.

She appeared in the 1920 census of Washington State. She was living in Seattle and was working as a housekeeper in a private home. Her daughter, Jessie was living with her aunt, Hester Johnson and grandmother, Victoria Miller.

She married her second husband, Wade Shamblin Long (called Tex) in 1921 and they lived in San Francisco. Wade was born January 15, 1875 in Cherokee County, Texas. He was mustered into Company F, 4th Regiment of Infantry, Texas Volunteers on July 23, 1898. He was a Corporal, 23 1/2 years old, single, grey eyes, brown hair,  5 feet 10 inches tall, lived in Larissa, Texas, and had been a school teacher. He enlisted for two years. He listed his address as Garden City, Texas and his guardian was his uncle, Thomas Rusk Long. He served in the war with Spain. He later was a prospector in Alaska

At the time of the 1930 census they were living in San Francisco. The head of household was Katherine McCaffrey age 64 who was born in California. The others were listed as borders in her home. They included William Johnson age 60, Mabel Johnson age 52 (Nellie's first husband's sister and her husband), Wade Long age 55, Nellie Long age 46, Ernest Finkenkeller age 35, Jessie Finkenkeller age 20, and Ernest Finkenkeller, Jr. age 1 (Nellie's daughter's family).  In 1941 she lived at 927 Vicente Avenue, San Francisco, California.

Nellie died on May 20, 1965 in Santa Rosa, California and is buried at the Golden National Gate Cemetery (plot R) with her husband,Wade Long, in San Bruno, California.
