The Limerick Treahy Family

  The Trehy family was in Limerick from the time of the 12th century Norman invasions of Ireland according to The Families of County Limerick, Ireland by Michael C. O'Laughlin.  
Treahy is also spelled O'Trehy, Trahey, Trehy, Trehey, Trihy, Trohy, Troy, Tuohy

Bartholomew Treahy was born in 1782 in Askeaton, Limerick, Ireland. He married Briget Moran. His children were included

Eliza Treahy Griffin (1826, married Edward Griffin),
Catherine Elizabeth Treahy Cleveland Copley Armstrong (1827),
John Bartholomew Treahy (1829, married Sarah Healy)
Helen Treahy Flynn (1830, married Owen Flynn)

Ann Treahy (1834, became a nun)
Patrick Joseph Treahy (1834, married Eliza Thomas)

County Limerick, is in the Mid-West Ireland and is part of the province of Munster.

Patrick Treahy was born about 1805. He married Bridget Setright. Their children were

Denis Trehy was in Ballynort, Askeaton in 1827.

 

 
  In 1821 Terence Moran led a Whiteboy raid on the local tithe proctor. It was a general time of unrest. There were faction fights between towns over seaweek collection.  
  William Trehy born about 1822 from Limerick was put in Smithfield prison in Dublin for sheep stealing in 1845 and in 1849  
  Denis Trehy born about 1831 was put in Limerick prison in 1863 for Malinjury To Propy Of Hymalone

Thomas Treahy was born about 1820. He married Hannah Costello. Their children were

James Treahy was born about 1820. He married Bridget Carroll

 

 
  James Treahy born about 1828 was put in Limerick prison in 1858 for assault.  
  James Treahy born about 1831 was put in Limerick prison in 1860 for Drunk &C  
  Anne Trahey born 1831 was put in Naas prison in Kildare in 1860 for drunkeness (she ended up there quite a few more times.)  
  In 1833 a serious faction fight broke out over the collection of seaweed at a fair in Askeaton.  
  James Treahy born about 1841 was put in Limerick prison in 1870 for being drunk.  
  In Askeaton, a famine Hospital was set up to care for the dying and very ill. During the famine, Askeaton had two auxiliary workhouses one was located in the main street, and the other in brewery lane. The population of the town in 1841 was 1862 people. the population in 1891 was 804 people.
