Walter W. Van Dusen was born on April 1, 1837 in Ellenburg, Clinton, New York. He married Harriet Sanders who was born about 1840 in New Hampshire. They married about 12863 in New York and had at least three children in Clinton County, New York. Harriet died before 1870 and his second wife was named Margaret.

Emily Van Dusen was born about 1867.

Miles Van Dusen was born on January 28, 1875. He married June Johnson (1883). Miles died on November 27, 1952 in San Diego.

William Henry Van Dusen was born June 27, 1864. He married Eva Edith Miller on August 12, 1896 in San Diego, California. Their sons were Wilson Miles Van Dusen (July 26, 1898) and Walter D. Van Dusen  (1902).  William was a carpenter. William and Eva divorced. William died on March 11, 1949.

Services were held yesterday in Bradley-Woolman Drawing Room Chapel for William H. Van Dusen, 84, 509 12th, retired carpenter and a 64-year San Diego resident who died Friday in a hospital. Cremation followed. The Rev. Orno E. Tyler officiated

Van Dusen was born in Clinton County, New York, June 27, 1864. He is survived by a son Wilson M. Van Dusen, San Francisco, a brother, Miles Van Dusen, San Diego; grandchildren Wilson M. Van Dusen Jr. and Lois Bishop and great-granddaughter, Susan Bishop, all of Berkeley.

San Diego, California was incorporated in 1850, the same year California became a state. The original Old Town was located several miles inland. In the late 1860s, Alonzo Horton promoted a move to New Town on the bay. New Town grew quickly and became the city center. In 1915, San Diego hosted the Panama-California Exposition.
