Alfred Simpson

Franklin County, Indiana was formed in 1811 from Dearborn and Clark counties. Brookville is the county seat and was settled in 1804.

Montgomery County, Indiana was established in 1822.

Alfred Simpson was born before 1820 in Ohio. His parents were probably Allen Simpson and Nancy Vincent. When he was a child, he moved to Franklin County, Indiana with his family.

He married Eunice Lofland on February 24, 1841 in Montgomery County. Eunice was born in June 1823 in Delaware.

Alfred and Eunice's children included:
John H. Simpson (1841, Company B. 10th Indiana),
William A. Simpson (1842),
Sarah E. Simpson (1845),
Albert Johnson Simpson (1848), and
Alfred L. Simpson (1848).

Alfred died on September 23, 1850.

After his death, Eunice married Alexander Brown who died in 1859.

In 1860 the household was in Clay, Indiana.

During the Civil War, William and John enlisted in Company B of the Indiana 10th Infantry. William died on February 20, 1862 at Stanford, Kentucky.

In 1880, Eunice was a dressmaker in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana and living with Theodocia and Sarah.

Eunice died on June 2, 1901 in Crawfordsville.

In the Civil War (1861 to 1865) eleven Southern states seceded from the U.S. and formed the Confederate States of America.

Kentucky was originally a Virginia county and included the lands west of the Appalachians. In 1780, it was divided into Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties. Kentucky officially became a state on June 1, 1792.
