The first European settlements in Maryland were made in 1634 when English settlers created a permanent colony.

John Nicholson was born on December 30, 1686 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. He was the son of John Nicholson and Rebecca Beard.

He married Hester Ijams. Hester had 3 children from a previous relationship with Captain John Duvall who married Elizabeth Jones.
