An American Family History

The Ricketts and Oxley Families

Ancestors of Sarah Jane Ricketts Fox

The Ricketts family were in Maryland by 1765 when Robert Ricketts was born. Robert's family moved to Pennsylvania where he served as a private in the American Revolution. The family moved from Pennsylvania to Kentucky to Indiana and to Illinois. Sarah Jane Ricketts Fox's family moved from Illinois to Missouri and then moved on and settled in Lucas County, Iowa.

The Oxley family settled in Hopewell, New Jersey and moved on to Loudoun County, Virginia. They were Baptists and members of the Hopewell Baptist Church with the Bonhams in New Jersey and the Ketoctin Baptist Church in Virginia.

When John Newton Fox, married Sarah Jane Ricketts in 1863, they again united the Baptist families (Yerkes, Ricketts, Oxley, Fox, Bonham) who had settled in New Jersey and had been moving together and intermarrying since the 17th century.
