An American Family History

The Bonham, Fuller and Lothrop Families

Ancestors of Christian Bonham Fox

The Bonhams were a early New Jersey Huguenot family. The Huguenots were French Protestants. Protestantism was introduced to Roman Catholic France during the Reformation. They experienced alternately high favor and persecution. They left France during times of persecutions and emigrated to the other European countries. They  immigrated to the American colonies directly from France and from the Protestant countries of Europe. This immigration began before the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 and continued for over one hundred years.

Christian Bonham Fox was born about 1737 in New Jersey. She was the daughter of Amariah Bonham who was one of Hezekiah Bonham's many "iah" sons.

Hezekiah's mother was Hannah Fuller whose father, Samuel Fuller, was a Mayflower pilgrim. Amariah Bonham and his sons fought in the American Revolution in Virginia before moving to Pennsylvania.

The Bonhams settled at first in Barnstable, Massachusetts, then moved to Piscataway, New Jersey and then to Virginia and Pennsylvania. They were instrumental members of Scotch Plains Baptist Church, Hopewell Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church of Piscataway, and the Seventh Day Baptist Church.
