Priscilla Walton

Smallpox is caused by of two viruses: Variola major and Variola minor. Symptoms include a rash and blisters. The mortality rate for V. major is 30–35% and for V. minor is about 1%. Long-term complications include scars, blindness, and limb deformities.

  • Priscilla Walton was born about 1735 in the Manor of Moreland Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. It is now Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Caleb Walton

    She may have died of smallpox on February 2, 1777.

    The Manor of Moreland was composed of a tract of ten thousand acres, and was created, in 1682, by a grant from William Penn to Dr. Nicholas More. Most of the Manor was in Philadelphia County, but is now Moreland Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
